| 1d black plate 5 mint block of 4 AG-BH |

| 1841 1d lake red from plate 176 on cover (RPSL certificate). This cover is one of several from plates 175, 176 and 177
discovered in an original correspondence from London to Hull. The plate 177 cover below was part of that correspondence. |

| 1841 1d reds - a strip of 4 and a single - from plate 177 on cover dated 15 February 1854 - probably unique and a very early date for this rare plate imperf (we know of
one cover bearing a single dated 2 days earlier) |

| Plum is a very difficult shade. G.C. Tonna says in his Colour Guide - Shades of Die II Alphabet III, there is
no range of plum shades, the colour being distinctive but is this correct? This example of SG Spec C8(3) was certified as plum by RPSL in May 2005 |

| A scan of the plum shade from G.C. Tonna's Colour
Guide. The stamp on the left resembles the colour depicted in the Colour Guide but the C6(3) is in a different but still distinctive shade. Its shade might have been affected by the cream colour of the paper on which it is printed. |

| SG Spec C6(3) in plum, also with RPSL certificate, from the collection of Tim Burgess |

| SG Spec C8(6) deep claret on deeply blued paper (2001 RPSL certificate) |

| C10 plate 53 in rose red - only two recorded from this plate in rose red, the vast majority of known examples being C9s in pale rose. This example is ex Dr Wiggins' collection used to produce The Plating of Alphabet III with G C Tonna, although it was not illustrated in that book. It has a 1993 RPSL certificate. |

| C9(4) plate 53 mint block of 4 DF-EG ex the G C Tonna mint block of 49 a photograph of which can be found in The Plating of Alphabet III AA-DL volume after the DL page |
